Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon Brothers Zeus, the god of the sky is a friendly and paternal god with a vast exaggerated personal ego. He is cunning and superb and has a tremendous leadership power. He presides over kingship and oversees the sky, lightning and thunder. He also commands the ocean, earthquakes, and metals. His brother Hades presides over the underworld. How did they become Gods? The Greeks developed a vast mythology that was a mix of early Greek culture and pre-Greek Mediterranean beliefs, as well as other cultures that they intermarried with as they conquered their land. This was particularly true when it came to their gods. Zeus, Poseidon and Hades were often depicted with very similar personalities and stories as well as depictions. This could be due to the conventions of art, the fact that they were brothers or because the different stories were told in distinct regions. Zeus was the first Olympian who overthrew Cronus the father of their children. Afraid that one of his children would take over him, Cronus swallowed Zeus' brothers and sisters at birth. Cronus his wife Rhea was able to escape from the womb to save her son. Zeus was therefore the only child to survive. Zeus and his brother Poseidon split the power when the Titans were defeated. Zeus took over the skies, and his brother Poseidon was given dominion over the oceans. Hades drew the worse lot of his brothers and sisters and became the ruler of the underworld. Hades is typically depicted as a dark, ghastly figure who inspires fear and awe to all who meet him. Cerberus is often seen with him, the three-headed dog that guards his realm. He also wears a hat known as the Helm of Darkness, and his weapon is the bident, that resembles the trident of Poseidon. Ancient Greeks viewed the underworld as more of a spiritual realm rather than an actual hell. Hades was responsible for watching over the souls and lives of mortal women, men and children who passed away. He also has the responsibility of creating life and bringing rain to those who need it. Zeus is the king of heavens and is the leader of the Olympian Gods. He is often portrayed with a beard and tridents on his hands. He is a powerful god with a tan skin. His hair and beard are light brown, and he wears a loose robe that shows his musclebound body. The trident is his weapon of choice and often he carries a thunderbolt. What are their powers? While they share some similarities, Zeus and Poseidon are distinct from one another. They each have their own strengths and powers that help them fulfill their roles in the pantheon. Zeus is king of the Gods and rules over the skies. Poseidon controls the ocean and Hades rules the underworld. Both brothers have the ability to smite their enemies with lightning and thunder. They also both can alter their forms. This lets them communicate with mortals at the level of a human. They also have the ability to manage weather conditions and are extremely powerful at sea. Hades is the Greek god of underworld. Hades is a dark, foreboding character. He isn't as welcoming or courteous as Zeus or Poseidon, and is also known for his bad moods. He is responsible for punishing the dead. However He does it with compassion and fairness. Hades is the patron god for all things water-related. He is often depicted wearing his trident and Cerberus the three-headed guard dog of the underworld, in the form of artistic representations. Like his brother, he is extremely powerful and can shake the earth with his trident. He can also create powerful storms that can capsize vessels in a matter of seconds. He is the god of the sea. of the sea as well as of horses. He is a dangerous god, and his anger is easily provoked. Persephone is the most well-known of their tales. She was the daughter of Demeter and Zeus and was abducted by Hades to be his wife. Despite her initial resistance, Hades fell in love with her. He was compelled to negotiate with her to let her go back to his home in the underworld as long as she spent only a small portion of each year on earth with him. Persephone was hesitant to leave her earthly life and return to the realm of her father. She eventually complied with the terms. This is the reason it was among the few occasions that Hades traveled above the ground. How do they interact with each with each Zeus and Poseidon were two of the most powerful mythological gods. They are the sons of Titan king Cronus and his wife Rhea, and they took over their fathers and became the supreme rulers of Olympus. When they split power, they each received control over different areas of the universe. Zeus got the sky, kingship and dominion over the seas while Poseidon got the sky. Although the brothers are close, they do fight with each other. Zeus is the most powerful and oldest god of the three. He is the most dominant of the other two in all situations. Zeus is also the most brutal and violent of the Olympians He makes use of his power to retaliate against those who bother or frighten him. He is a great father, but he also considers his daughter Hera as the most important of his children. She is a good friend and counselor. He values her highly. She is also strong enough to stand up against her father's reckless and impulsive behavior. Hades unlike his sister, doesn't appear to have a lot of Zeus his traits. In some myths he seems to admire and desire the power that Zeus is renowned for, but in others, he acts in a sarcastic way towards his brother. He also gives false condolences to his brother for the abduction of Persephone. This indicates that he does not care about her disappearance. Poseidon is the King of the Seas and earthquakes, therefore he has the ability to trigger tsunamis, storm surges and earthquakes. To demonstrate his power, he's often shown by his trident. He is also the king of horses and has the ability to control any animal that lives in his domain. This includes land and sea creatures. He is also a god of the Underworld. This means that he is able to summon souls or exile them from life on Earth. He is usually depicted with his three-headed dog Cerberus on his side. He is also the guardian of the throne of the dead, so he has the power to determine the fate of souls and send them to heaven or hell. What is the nature of their relationship? Zeus, Hades and Poseidon were born to Titan king Cronus and his sister Queen Rhea. In the Titanomachy, they overthrew their father, and then played lotteries to determine who would rule which realms. Hades was granted the Underworld, Zeus received the heavens and sky, and Poseidon became god of the sea. Each of these brothers controlled vast territories that were greater than anything that any god could do. They were intelligent and wise leaders who took pride in their power. They also were jealous of one another. Zeus was jealous that his brother was so loving Hera. He wanted her for himself. To take her away she was kidnapped, he took her to the Underworld. While there he made her drink his potion. This resulted in her becoming an Hebe and she refused to go back to Demeter until she had a second child. This resulted in Persephone spending two-thirds of her time with Demeter and one-third with Hades. It also created the seasons. During her time with Demeter she began to neglect her duties as the goddess of fertility. Hades was angry. Holmes Trail decided to get her back. He tricked her by transforming himself into a disheveled cuckoo. Because of her love for animals he held the bird to her breast and she fell in love. He then returned to the original form and then mated her. Hades became a loving father and husband to his three children following the marriage. He was anxious about his place on Mount Olympus. He wanted to be the center for a change. He suggested to the gods that he would bring hell to the planet. After days of discussion the gods finally agreed. While Hestia is an eminent goddess of peace, her role is to keep the other Olympians in check. She is also the patron of marriage, and takes special care to married women. She was a very religious lady however she did have a few affairs with Zeus, the husband of her sister. She had children both with mortals and nymphs including Triton and Theseus.
